On Monday, September 7, US stock exchanges will remain closed for Labor Day, a version of Labor Day that, in the United States and elsewhere, is celebrated on the first Monday of September rather than on May 1. All the main US exchanges will be closed: NYSE, Nasdaq, and also Cboe, as well as Canada’s TSX. The closure of US stock exchanges will also force crypto ETFs to halt trading. Cryptocurrency trading, however, remains active 24/7.
The closure will also partially affect the futures market, with CME not publishing updates on specific products.
The other delay: will we only find out on Tuesday what Saylor has done?
There is another unknown. What did Strategy do during the week concerning Bitcoin? These communications are generally issued by Saylor’s company only on the following Monday. Given the coincidence with Labor Day, the company may submit the mandatory form to the SEC reporting the transactions only the following day, namely Tuesday.
The reporting period will nevertheless remain the week that has just ended. We will therefore probably have to wait a few more hours.
What will happen to the crypto markets?
The day should be viewed as a half-Sunday, at least during the session that takes place in the afternoon for us Europeans. The closure of US exchanges will generally lead to lower volumes and the absence of trading in ETFs. In the latter case, this will be a significant absence, given that volumes for these products have been rather high, at least over the past few weeks.
This will therefore also affect Ethereum and a small group of cryptocurrencies—notably Hyperliquid, Solana, and Ripple—once again in terms of volumes.
For the rest, see you on Tuesday
Tuesday will therefore be important not only for the resumption of trading, but also for the most important macro data, which for the cryptocurrency market continue to be those released by the United States.
A long weekend during which crypto markets and Bitcoin will nevertheless continue trading 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
COMMODITIES
Commodity futures will operate intermittently. On this occasion too, however, the crypto sector will serve as a support. Trading on DEXs such as Hyperliquid will continue, including perpetual futures involving oil and gold.
As happens every weekend, the crypto sector will emerge as a reference point for price quotations. Among other things, with a certain degree of accuracy.
